Welcome To Me

Hello. 👋

Hi. I’m Neil. Some of you probably know me, but for those of you who don’t, I’ll tell you a bit about myself. And, who knows, maybe some people who do know me will learn something new. Anything’s possible.

I’m actually very similar to Matt in a lot of ways (he’s the other mod, who does all the tech stuff, which, kudos to him, take a bow, Matt). We’re about the same age (I’m a little older, go me), rocking grey hair and beard, though to be fair, he does rock it better than me; and we have a lot of similar interests. A lot of slightly nerdy stuff, though in my case, nothing too technical: steampunk, sci-fi/fantasy, poetry, B-movies, talking late into the night, and; most importantly, God stuff and creativity, particularly writing, which we’re both good at, though in very different ways.

So, how am I different? All sorts of random things, let me know which ones come as a surprise. I live in a different place, I have different friends (though obviously some in common), I have epilepsy (though whether that has any effect on my life other than that I can’t drive, I don’t know), and I’m vegetarian. I don’t eat meat simply because God told me to stop one year, and about two weeks later, I noticed I didn’t miss it – which is definitely a miracle, even if only a small one.

Also, another major difference between the two of us is what we write. We both appreciate comedy, but I’m terrible at writing it. What I write mainly is poetry, which is something I discovered in my teens. Shortly after becoming a Christian, God encouraged me to write poems, I started praying about it as I wrote them, and over time, I wrote more and more often. I would say that the poems got better as well; or at least I wrote good ones more often than not. I also developed somewhat in my style, writing more that rhyme – something that doesn’t come easily to me most of the time. I don’t often write formal poetry, though I will say that both limericks and haikus are among my favourite things to write. Possibly because they’re both short, possibly because they’re both very specific; I don’t know, they’re certainly very different.

And the other main thing I’ve written/am writing, is a book about art and creativity from a Christian perspective. I’ve currently got as far as the second draft, and am working with a friend on editing it. I don’t know what will happen after that, as I definitely think it is something that will benefit from traditional publishing, to get knowledge of it to as many people as possible. Which is one thing I hope will come out of doing this; that I can talk about it, and people will see it and discuss it. That I can get something of a buzz going before anything else happens. And also, that comments will help me get it better.

Which is something else I can mention that is unique to me. When I became a Christian, many years ago, I had what I’ve always thought of as visions, in that these ideas have never gone away. One was the idea of creating an organisation to encourage Christians to reach their full potential, whatever that may mean. And this seems to be a good way to start that. And the other was that I felt God wanted me to write three books: one on art and creativity; one on sex and surrounding areas; and one on heaven and hell. In that order. Well, at least I’ve started the first one.
