Avengers, Who?

This one is just for a bit of fun, really. Having just watched the new MCU films, including Thunderbolts, it’s a question I’ve been pondering.

Now, hopefully, this won’t be a spoiler for any of you, as by the time you read this, it should have been out for a while. If you haven’t, I’m sorry about that, but it is kind of crucial to this post.

If you saw Captain America: Brave New World, you’ll know that President Ross asked Sam Wilson, the new Cap, to form a new team of Avengers; but then things went sideways, and the film ended without any resolution to that idea. Until the end of Thunderbolts* (the asterisk is important, btw).

A quick summing up of that film is that Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has been doing a lot of unsavoury things in order to create, use, and control super persons, including human experimentation. The film starts with Yelena Belova doing cleanup for her, as a Congress Ethics Committee has her in its sights – and then Yelena herself needs to be cleaned, along with Val’s other contractors, Ghost, Taskmaster, John Walker, and an apparently random guy called Bob. Who turns out not to be random after all – in fact, he turns out to be not only incredibly powerful, and possibly unkillable, but also the greatest threat so far seen. Possibly. But after this ragged group (who claim not to be a team), plus Bucky and Red Guardian deal with the threat ( temporarily? Permanently? Who knows? ), Val turns the tables one last time, and spikes the guns of the Ethics Committee by announcing them as the new Avengers to the press. And that’s where the film ends…

Well, almost. The final post credit scene has them kind of stuck, with opinion being split down the middle as to whether they truly are the new Avengers. Sam is also apparently working on putting together a team, and all Bucky says about him talking to Sam about it is “it went poorly”.

Now we know that big things are coming up in the MCU, one of them appears in that very same scene. If you know you know, and if you don’t, you probably have a treat coming. We know that RDJ is playing Doctor Doom, who is causing major ripples in the multiverse, and there’s a two part story called Avengers: Doomsday, and Secret Wars. We can guess that most, or all of the characters we’ve so far seen onscreen will appear in some way, and at the end, someone will create a new, official, Avengers.

So, I have two main questions , and a supplementary one.

1. Who would be on Sam’s hypothetical team? Who would he ask? Who would say yes?
2. After everything has settled, and those still alive and active, who would be on the Avengers then?

And the supplementary question, what will the others do?
